Begun in Dallas as a studio project by guitarist and vocalist Wayne Brito for musical ideas, Three Lane Road has evolved into a full band doing live shows and promoting their self-titled debut EP. Three Lane Road, with six songs, comes in advance of promised full-length work in early 2017.
In a few words, Three Lane Road plays classic melodic hard rock. Think the mid to late Eighties scene. Looking at the band press photo, this may not come as a surprise. These guys aren't some twenty-something hipsters. Brito probably has all the original records from the bands that influences the TLR sound, like Bon Jovi, Dokken, Skid Row, to name a few.
More specifically to the Three Lane Road sound, being composed by a guitarist, the songs are very guitar-forward. Riffs rule the roost, and you can count on a flurry soaring guitar solos throughout. Also, with the vocals, the twin guitar parts form the essential harmony in every song. As to the vocals, Brito is a fine vocalist, singing clean and melodic with some passion. All these things are wrapped up in the proper amount of groove, melody, and a proper amount of hooks in both lyrics and arrangement. The result is a fine package of songs. Essentially, they rock with not a bad apple among the litter. (That was a mixed metaphor if you didn't catch it.) As the saying goes in our industry, "All killer, with no filler." The question then becomes, "Can Three Lane Road hit it out of the park with their long player?" Probably. After all, the Cowboys are on their way to claiming NFC East, so fortune seems to smiling upon Dallas these days. Recommended.
