Zombie Motors Wrecking Yard: Supersonic ...
Zombie Motors Wrecking Yard Supersonic Rock n Roll CD Album Review

Zombie Motors Wrecking Yard ...

Heavy/Stoner/Blues Rock
3.5/5.0

Zombie Motors Wrecking Yard. If anything, their band name is creative, perhaps even catchy, though it doesn't drop off the tongue like Black Label Society, one of the band's influences. Kudos to the album art work as well, which looks like something from a Tarrantino or Rob Zombie sci-fi sexploitation movie, also something of interest to the band. Supersonic Rock n Roll is Zombie Motors Wrecking Yard's debut album.

Zombie Motors Wrecking Yard

Hailing from Victoria Australia, ZMWY declares themselves to be a stoner blues band with additional inspiration from Red Fang, Kyuss, Nebula, Clutch, among others. Being from "down under," perhaps the first best thing to say is that they DON'T sound like AC/DC. But, ZMWY definitely understands the stoner blues genre, and then blends it with some psychedelic vibe and simple hard rock groove. And with a song such as Dead Smile ZMDY drops in some Nintendo-like, industrial space rock, synth quirkiness.

But mostly the best material here are the songs that work with raw riffs, a deep bass line, and that momentous and thunderous groove like Fight Fight Fight, Galactic Motherfucker, Supersonic Rock n Roll, and Love For Speed, which has roaring guitar solo. Another stand out song is Bad Boy Benny with it's raucous, sharp and edgy, blues guitar line. Ran's vocals may take some getting used to as his voice has a definite whiskey breath rasp to it. Nevertheless, with Supersonic Rock n Roll, Zombie Motors Wrecking Yard offers a favorable, and some may find refreshing, new twist on classic stoner blues rock. Check them out.
