Cryonic Temple: Deliverance
Cryonic Temple - Deliverance Music Review

Cryonic Temple: Deliverance

Melodic/Heavy/Power Metal
5.0/5.0

Whence before it took Cryonic Temple nine years to reappear with a new album, 2017's Into The Glorious Battle. Now founding guitarist Esa Ahonen returns with Deliverance in a mere 15 months. Even more surprising, Cryonic Temple returns with the same personnel from that previous album. Will wonders never cease?

Cryonic Temple

I hope not. It's all good. Deliverance is a superb and entertaining album of Cryonic Temple's European-style melodic power metal. The band consciously and effectively blends melody, harmony, rhythm, and groove through twin guitar harmony, gallop and groove, stunning guitar solos, syphonic synth textures and, of course, fine melodic and clean vocal arrangements. While Mr Ahonen is a fine metal guitarist and a true asset, Mattias Lilja is another exciting asset behind the microphone. His voice is smooth, melodic, and never strained, the very definition of a fine vocalist. Put all these elements together, Cryonic Temple sounds great and the songs are epic, accessible, and entertaining.

Then on to the songs. You can expect some true power metal tunes, offering both gallop and groove, with Rise Eternally Beyond, Under Attack, and Knights Of the Sky, with it's powerful drum line. Another example of drummer Micke Dahlkvist's power and groove comes with the swift Starchild. It's also an example of a song that begins with an epic guitar start. With Temple Of Cryonics you get a symphonic start with big drums before Lilja leans in with a smooth vocal line. Synths and bass begin Loneliest Man In Space, a sweet anthemic metal ballad to be lead by Lilja's smooth vocals. The song rises in the middle, moves to piano, and then soars with a fine guitar solo. Similar is Swansong Of The Last Emperor, where piano, synths, and light guitar combine with Lilja's voice for another rising ballad. About the 2:40 mark, the piano rises higher with acoustic guitar before another epic guitar solo rise. This is nearly elegant melodic metal.

Honestly, I liked everything about Cryonic Temple's Deliverance, simply superb melodic symphonic power metal. I've followed their career for sometime, and this has to be their finest album to date. Get it. Quite recommended.
