Golden Resurrection: Glory to My King

Melodic Heavy/Power Metal
4.0/5.0

Building Golden Resurrection upon the elements melodic neo-classical heavy/power metal and Christian theism and faith is familiar ground to both founders vocalist Christian Liljegren (Narnia, Audiovision, Divinefire) and guitarist Tommy Johansson (ReinXeed). Liljegren and Johansson began collaborating in 2008, and Glory to My King is the result. Golden Resurrection, of course, is an allusion to the resurrection of the Jesus Christ, the King.

Fans of real neo-classical guitar blended with strong and harmonious vocal arrangements, and an often heavy and blistering pace will find themselves in melodic heavy metal heaven (excuse the Christian pun) with Glory to My King. See My Commands quickly brings this classic style to your ears as do the later Never Look Back, The Final Day, and Golden Flames. Yet, title cut Glory to My King probably best displays Golden Resurrection's two strongest points: Christian's strong vocals and Tommy's sizzling fret pyrotechnics. More traditional melodic metal, without the galloping pace, comes on Never Look Back: a fine piece with a catchy groove and chorus. On the spiritual side, you cannot miss the Christian message throughout this work, but it's most evident on Glory to My King and The Final Day.

Golden Resurrection's Glory to My King is one of the finest representation of Scandi melodic neo-classical heavy metal. While the obvious and intentional proclamation of Jesus Christ and Christianity may put off some, Glory to My King is a genuinely entertaining example of the genre.
