We first heard from France's Heart Line, created by French guitarist and producer Yvan Guillevic (YGAS, PYG, United Guitars), with their 2021 debut album, Back In The Game. This quickly followed by their second long player, Rock 'n Roll Queen and a shorter EP, Original Seeds in 2023. Now, with the same personnel intact, the quintet arrives with their latest and third studio album, Falling Heaven, remaining with Germany's Pride & Joy Music label.
Essentially, this album continues the Heart Line mission: creating guitar-driven melodic hard rock wrapped in AOR accessibility ala the great Eighties. Strong songwriting is fueled by song melody, vocal and guitar harmony, memorable refrains, essential rock groove, and terrific guitar solos. However, after a few spins, I found this album to have the punch and power nearing melodic metal rock with the AOR accent.
This observation is self-evident across the entire album, beginning with Fire In The Sky but also, as examples, Broken Heart, You Crossed The Line, God Has A Plan For You, Liar, or We Rule The Night. As I mentioned, the AOR groove remains, yet still blurs with the melodic hard rock punch as with Falling Heaven, Love Song, and Wake Up. The strongest AOR contender is, with little doubt, the ballad I Don't Want To Live Without You.
My last experience with Heart Line was my first with Back In The Game, wherein I was rather ambivalent about that recording. With Falling Heaven, I liked the more assertive, yet still classic and melodic, hard rock style. I wish could shere more music videos with this review but one is all I got from the label.
All said, Heart Line's third album, Falling Heaven, brings more power and punch to their sound, almost approaching melodic metal rock, yet still wrapped in AOR accessibility and sensibility. Quite entertaining and recommended.
