Listening to Germany's Lick and A Promise's second album Come Together in the Morning, one may think that they are living out of time and place. I'm thinking, possibly, at first impression, west coast and the Monterey Pop Festival of yesteryear. LAAP effectively blends folk, blues, and even country with melodic rock within a classic rock motif. The retrospective is honest and authentic, with little cliche. You're likely to hear simple and earthy rock on the clever and catchy Dance for Me or Hey Hey Hello. The Highway reminds of recalculated, last 20 years or so, American south blues rock ala the Black Crowes. Later Come Together blisters with early Rolling Stones Brit rock finding its swagger in that same Southern style. While many current bands think only of emulating their peers, Lick and A Promise mine the roots of rock for a retrospective, yet genuinely refreshing modern melodic rock sound. Recommended.
