Twinspirits: Legacy
Twinspirits Legacy album new music review

Twinspirits: Legacy

Melodic Heavy/Progressive Metal
4.5/5.0

Daniele Liverani's Twinspirits project/band returns with Legacy, and pick up where they left off from 2009's very fine The Forbidden City. Again, Legacy offers heaviness combined with melodic and progressive metal arrangements. The first half of the album has six stand alone numbers, while the second half has small metal opera, The Endless Sleep, in five parts.

Concerning the first half, while all the songs have a stronger, heavier, motif, there's a real melodic sensibility to Pay for Their Art, Blind Soul, and even the rushing power metal of Slave to this World. On the latter, Goran Nystrom displays the breadth of his ever developing vocal skills. But Don't Kill Your Dreams, a metal ballad of sorts, shows how he can soar. The song itself is uncharacteristically pure melodic heavy metal, against the more progressive infusion in all the rest.

Longtime fans of Liverani's Genius metal opera project will find the mini-opera, The Endless Sleep, quite imaginative and entertaining. The story concerns the adventures of man in the after life after his premature death, including all the emotions and problems that occur when asked to do the sovereign being's will. Excusing the intro, the remaining four tracks are pure epic melodic power and progressive metal. The canvas is huge, and the Twinspirits crew use the room to flex their musical muscle. Particularly ambitious are (again) Nystrom's vocals, but also Tommy Ermolli's fine guitar work. He's steady within every arrangement, but blisters and soars with breathtaking solos throughout. Together with the rest of the band, I'm Leaving the World and Tell Me the Truth are superior and engaging music from Twinspirits.

Once more, on Legacy, Twinspirits delivers an ambitious, intriguing blend of melodic and heavy progressive metal. Thanks to a settled lineup, Twinspirits is hitting their groove. Strongly recommended!
