Alright. Without looking at the genre, only the band name, tell me what kind of music Sleazy Roxxx plays. Yep. This is Eighties melodic in the sleaze/glam tradition. I'm sure you noticed the triple X in the band name. It appears Sleazy Roxxx wants to take it one step further calling their hard rock, porn glam. Ergo the song, Porn To Be Wild. I thought that was inherent in the sleaze tradition.
Initial observations aside, the Roxxxsters sound like a mash up of Motley Crue with Guns N Rose. Their guitarist, Jan Vandervell, has a mop and guitar like Slash, and plays with a cigarette hanging from his lips. Even his guitar style has some Slash-like similarities. Imitation is the sincerest form ...
So, essentially, if you're familiar with Eighties sleaze metal, you've heard this before. And in Europe there seems to be an ongoing ground swell of similar bands, Hardcore Superstar, Crazy Lixx, Party Animals, et al. Fortunately, while derivative, Sleazy Roxxx works the genre quite well, squeezing out some decent music. As they should, besides the sex, drugs, alcohol, porn, chicks lyrical musings, the band knows melody and harmony, rock groove, catchy refrains and hooks, and fiery guitar solos are mandatory. Sometimes it's surprisingly interesting as with the more diverse Live Fast - Die Young or Bastard, the speedy Long Way to Mexico, or the groove monster, the goofy Sex Drugs & Ice Cream. Mostly you can't understand much of what the vocalist is singing, which probably a good thing because he drops more than a few f-bombs. But that's nothing new for the genre.
Simply, Sleazy Roxxx understands melodic sleaze hard rock and does it right, even if you've heard it all before. They may even have a leg up on some other European acts that have recently surfaced like Italy's Party Animals and Eyes N Lips.

By far, Sweden's Eclipse is one of my favorite bands. Always consistent and always entertaining, Eclipse has been delivering their 21st century version of melodic metal rock since songwriter, producer ... [ Read More ]
