Martina Edoff: We Will Align
Martina Edoff - We Will Align CD Album Review

Martina Edoff: We Will Align

Melodic Hard Rock/Metal
5.0/5.0

Her looks remind me of a younger Gemma Teller Morrow (Sons Of Anarchy) and her voice reminds me of Heart's Ann Wilson. But prior to her latest and third album, We Will Align, I hadn't heard of Sweden's Martina Edoff. Yet, she has quite the resume, performing with Swedish hip-hop artist Dr Alban, Eurodance performer E-Type, and fellow Swedes, The Poodles. Ms Edoff has also toured North America, opened for Tarja Turunen in Argentina, and toured with The Winery Dogs in Europe. Let's have look and listen to her latest album.

For Edoff's vocal style, the Ann Wilson reference applies, especially in terms of her power, presence, and range (although Edoff is not quite as pitched as Wilson). Essentially, she's a classic hard rock singer, as opposed to the operatic female metal singers running amok in Europe these days. To define Edoff's musical style is quite simple: melodic hard rock with a strong metal edge and subtle blues tone mixed in. Melody and harmony are in abundance in every song from song arrangement to guitar lines to Edoff's voice and vocal arrangements. After these things hard rock groove propels every song, and the metal edge gives them sass and sharpness. Then there's the classic rock and metal guitar solos that are masterful and thrilling throughout. Mostly, Edoff's songs grab with the hooks in melody, groove, and those catchy refrains.

As for the songs, excepting one, they're all pretty much straight up hard rockers. Some of that metal edge rises within Turn Our Pages, Set You Free, and Truth Came knocking. But with that last song you also feel the blues groove mixed in, even more so within the very catchy AOR fueled I'm Invincible. For even more AOR arena ready accessibility, there's the uber groovy and catchy Champions, with another killer chorus. Finally, a rock anthem arrives with Face The Mirror, which starts quietly and then rises strongly with large riffage and synth orchestration, all the time with Edoff soaring voice above. Frankly, the whole album is pretty terrific, with no down side whatsoever.

With We Will Align Martina Edoff delivers another album of powerful AOR melodic hard rock infused with metal and touched with some blues. Get it. Quite recommended.
