May last experience with Norwegian metal band Guardians Of Time came with 2011's A Beautiful Atrocity, an interesting album of progressive power metal, only hampered by more than a few helpings of harsh vocals. This was followed by Rage And Fire which never crossed my review desk. So, 2018 brings us to Tearing Up The World, Guardian Of Time's fifth studio album.
While my recollection of A Beautiful Atrocity, after seven years, is a little hazy, Tearing Up The World strikes me more as straight up heavy/power metal. Generally, from start to finish, most songs jump from the gate and rush into a power metal gallop. You may find some subtle nuances to slow things a bit like the moderate start of Masters We Were or the mixed pacing of Light Won't Shine, for example.
But other songs, like Tearing Up The World, Kingdom Come, Raise The Eagle, or the mighty We'll Bring War, simply stomp on the nitro-fueled power metal engine and race to the finish. Throughout this power metal romp you will notice substantial amounts of fine twin guitar harmony, a dose here and there of rock groove, an abundance of soaring guitar solos, and Bernt Fjellestad's typical melodic yet assertive to screamo vocals. (Although on a song such as Kingdom Come he seems more restrained.) Additionally, Mr Fjellestad is joined by Tim "Ripper" Owens within As I Burn and death metal vocalist Abbath puking his way through Tearing Up World. Oh. Joy.
Suffice to say, if you like your power metal, well, powerful with speed, fury, assertive vocals, and an uber amount of guitar solos, then Guardians Of Time's Tearing Up The World will suit you just fine.
