Blitz: Welcome To The Rock Show

Melodic Hard Rock/Metal
3.5/5.0

Formed in 2015, Blitz hails from Nottingham: you know Robin Hood, Maid Marian, Friar Tuck, and Kevin Costner. The power trio released a self-produced EP some years back and now return with their first long-player Welcome To The Rock Show on the City Of Lights Records label.

Blitz

Blitz basically wears their influences on their sleeves, from KISS to AC/DC, Van Halen to Guns N Roses. Yup. This is Eighties classic sleaze hard rock deja vu all over again. And Blitz does the genre a solid. They work the rock rhythm and groove into an abundance of harmony and melody, and then add some sharpness and grit with a heavy metal edge. Drop in some catchy hooks in melody and refrains and ample amounts of fiery guitar solos, and the package is made complete. Essentially, the avid classic rock listener will recognize the Blitz sound as familiar territory. Alternatively, there's also some predictability to the Blitz song motif, enough so that some listeners may find that the tunes are redundant and repetitive in nature.

Nevertheless, Blitz hits the stage running with catchy riff rockers wrapped often in a three minute song. Some of the best are Believe, Miss America, Rock Me, and Falling Down. Others not so much. Beginning with some acoustic guitar, Love Is War is an attempt at a heavy anthemic ballad. Born To Rock is kind of tame and lame until Blitz starts shouting out the title in the latter third of the song. While Blitz easily delivers the classic Eighties hard rock sound, after a spin or two, I was pretty much done, ultimately not finding Welcome To The Rock Show all that memorable. But you may feel different. Check them out and support the band.
