When he's not working his Iron Mask project, guitar magician Dushan Petrossi also juggles his Magic Kingdom band. Returning with their fifth long-player, MetAlmighty, the album feature versatile journeyman vocalist Michael Vescera (Fatal Force, Killing Machine, Yngwie Malmsteen, among many others.)
For the uninitiated, Magic Kingdom plays epic and bombastic symphonic power metal, featuring Petrossi's walls of riffage, fierce neo-classical guitar solos, and lavish synth orchestration. Then there's the rhythm section to offer rabid drumming and thundering bass lines for power metal gallop and groove. To be fair, while most songs race along like a bullet train, Petrossi does sometimes temper his arrangement with more steady pacing. But principally, the songs are meant to feature Petrossi's fret wizardry. So our description should ultimately be modified to the lengthy, epic and bombastic, guitar-forward, symphonic power metal. As for the songs, formula follows the description: essentially leap from the gate into speedy gallop and groove, and then let Petrossi rip up his fret board with numerous solos. Repeat. Best song picks across MetAlmighty may be Fear My Fury, Rise From The Ashes Demon, MetAlmighty, and Unleash The Dragon. For an unexpected twist to the power metal rage, there's the lighter metal anthem, Just A Good Man. All in all, if you like epic and bombastic, guitar shredding, symphonic power metal, you will enjoy Magic Kingdom's MetAlmighty. Recommended.
