Majestica: Above The Sky
Majestica - Above The Sky Music Review

Majestica: Above The Sky

Melodic/Heavy/Power Metal
4.0/5.0

Swedish guitarist Tommy Johansson (Sabaton) has reincarnated his old band Reinxeed. Sort of. He arrives with a new band name for his new project. Wishing a fresh start, his band is now Majestica, a twist on the name of Reinxeed's 2010 album Majestic. Johansson is joined by Alex Oriz on guitar and Chris David on bass. For their debut album, Above The Sky, Uli Kusch (Helloween, Gamma Ray, Mekong Delta, et al) provided the drumming.

Majestica

Though it's been six years since the last Reinxeed album A New World, Majestica finds Johansson and crew revisiting familiar power metal territory. The band may be new, but the metal is not. Typical of Johansson, Majestica offers the gallop and groove of traditiional power metal. Then they simply add twin guitar harmony for a wall of riffage, synth and symphonic embellishments, and then cap everything off with an abundance of Johansson guitar solos. The result is epic and bombastic, tried and true, European power metal. Or, in this case, Tommy Johansson-style power metal.

Straight up power metal arrives with Rising Tide, The Way To Redemption, Alliance Forever, and Future Land. If there is some novelty or interest, the bass work within Above The Sky is mighty fine and, in the latter part of Father Time, the band offers some nice gang choral vocals. Night Call Girl finds Majestica getting their groove going with more power metal rock. With the synth intro of The Legend, you might think Majestica is stealing a page from Swedish rock legends Europe.

As I said earlier, guitarist Tommy Johansson and Majestica are once more in familiar territory, offering epic and lavish, symphonic and melodic, power metal. If you liked anything he did with his old band Reinxeed, you will dig Above The Sky.
