Wow. It's hard to believe. It's been more then seven years since Toby Hitchcock dropped his debut solo album, Mercury's Down. Discovered by Survivor's Jim Peterik for his Pride Of Lions project, the talented vocalist returns with his second effort, Reckoning, again for Frontiers Music. This time, Hitchcock is joined by the musical talents of Michael Palace on bass and guitar and Daniel Flores for keyboards, drums, and production.
Needless to say, Toby Hitchcock is one of the finest rock vocalists of this generation, and he's in fine form here. His voice is clean and melodic, powerful and soaring. Also, considering the talent of his musical cohorts, all the songs within Reckoning are simply fandamntastic, pure AOR melodic hard rock ear candy. On the strength of that summary, you can buy this album with confidence and you will be completely satisfied. But to mention a few songs.
Some ambitious rockers come with No Surrender, Behind The Lies, Someone Like You, and the brisk This Is Our World. Hitchcock's voice soars on the anthems Serenity and especially the mighty, Show Me How To Live. You'll find a large synth presence within the AOR rocker, Gift Of Flight, and a strong bass line to drive Don't Leave. Suffice to say, Toby Hitchcock's Reckoning is another terrific album of AOR melodic hard rock featuring his immense vocal talent. Quite recommended.
