After the rousing success of their debut album, Prophecy Of Ragnarok, the mighty Swedish metal warriors known as Brothers Of Metal return with their second effort, Emblas Saga. So, how rousing and successful was that first album? What reputation must this new album live up to? Only 30 million and more listens to the songs on that first album on YouTube. By Thor's balls! That's amazing!
Essentially, with Emblas Saga, Brothers Of Metal (BoM) are following that sage advice of, If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Once more the band delivers epic Scandi power metal driven by a triple guitar threat with an equal amount of vocalists, one being female. Actually, in most songs, Ylva Eriksson takes the lead, with male vocals adding gnarly and gruff harmony. Nevetheless, one of the fellows takes the lead on Chainbreaker, a power metal song with some groove and a catchy chorus. After this, if anything, BoM has enlivened and embellished their sonic metal canvas by adding more symphonic synth orchestrations, larger vocal arrangements, and moments of Celtic and folk nuances. Stories from Norse mythology and Viking tales also remain their main lyrical themes.
Speaking to a few more songs, you'll find some acoustic guitar and sweet orchetration for the ballad Weaver Of Fate. For more power metal with some hard rock groove, listen for Kaunaz Dagaz, To The Skies And Beyond, and Brothers Unite with its fine drum opening. More steady heavy metal comes with slower and bit lighter, Njord.
All said, with Emblas Saga, Brothers Of Metal stay true to their musical course by offering another platter of epic and ambitious power metal. Is it as good as the first album? Let the fans speak. Recommended.
