In/Vertigo: Sex, Love & Chaos EP

Melodic Hard Rock
4.0/5.0

Arriving from the home of the famous Calgary Stampede is Canadian rock band In/Vertigo. Formed only four years ago, the quartet has been performing relentlessly around Western Canada, appearing with bands like Diamond Head, Age Of Electric, and Pop Evil. In 2017, they recorded a four song demo, which was received well by their fans and sold out quickly. Their debut four song EP, Sex, Love & Chaos was recorded a year later, and also sold out. Now In/Vertigo is getting an international push from Rockshots Records, releasing Sex, Love & Chaos to a larger audience.

In/Vertigo

In/Vertigo is, essentially, a classic melodic hard rock band. Their songs boast strong riffs, abundant rock rhythm and groove, and fiery solos, all wrapped up with fine song melody and harmony. Vocalist Reed Alton sings strong, melodic, and clean, with a little screamo edge. There's only four songs to consider, so here's a simple breakdown.

Chains is a rowdy, rip roaring, hard rocker with plenty of groove and a terrific guitar solo. Bad Enemy features more steady pacing with both heavy riffs and rhythm section and another fine guitar solo, with Alton giving both his throat and lungs a workout. The Night has some bounce in its beat and, perhaps, some blues in its groove. It's a real toe tapper. Finally, with Take It, riffs rule the song and fuel the upbeat rock groove that the rhythm section compliments. Some might say it also has some latent blues groove.

All said, In/Vertigo's Sex, Love & Chaos is a fine debut EP, featuring four entertaining songs of guitar-forward classic melodic hard rock. The band just needs to come back with a full long-player. Recommended.
