Shadow Tribe: Reality Unveiled

Melodic Metal Rock
4.0/5.0

Shadow Tribe is a new Finnish metal band formed by two quite experienced musicians: bass player Marko Pukkila (Altaria, Stargazery) and vocalist Kimmo Peramaki (Celesty, Spiritus Mortis, Masquerage). Two years in the making the duo arrives with their debut studio album, Reality Unveiled, currently signed to Pride & Joy Music. The album also features guitarist Simo Pirttimaa (Pulse) and drummer Petri Heinonen (Coredust, Rajalla).

Shadow Tribe

Musically, Shadow Tribe offers a mixture of melodic hard rock and heavy metal, with some synth and symphonic nuances. The best summarization is likely melodic metal rock as most songs turn upon plenty of melody, harmony, and rock groove, yet with some metal edge in the riffs and rhythm section. Another key feature to the song composition is the vocal arrangements. Peramaki sings strong, melodic, and clean, yet sometimes can go raw and screamo. Yet the vocal harmony found in most songs tempers those edges. While it took some time to discover something about guitarist Simo Pirttimaa, he apparently is the guitarist for Finnish Pink Floyd tribute band Pulse. With Shadow Tribe he offers some mighty fine and soaring guitar solos.

Speaking to some tunes then. You'll find some fast and heavy melodic metal rock with Headstrong, Stolen Fate, and Connection which offers a fine synth solo. Although the keyboardist is not identified, the strength of synths and symphonics can be found within Splinters Of A Hologram. With Many Tears To Go, you'll find something more akin to an AOR melodic hard rock anthem with its smooth vocal arrangement, light synths, keen melody, and catchy chorus. Somewhat similar, though with more sharp and heavy in the riffs at the start, is Speck Of Sawdust. The song moves largely upon the melody, vocal harmony, and smooth, memorable refrain, but still offers some killer guitar lines. All in all, as a debut album, Shadow Tribe's Reality Unveiled is strong and entertaining album of well-crafted and energetic melodic metal rock. Easily recommended.
