Stan Bush: Dare To Dream

AOR Melodic Hard Rock
5.0/5.0

Stan Bush, as a songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist, is somewhat of a legend in the realms of melodic hard rock, television, and film. The list of his accomplishments and accolades are significant and notable. To be impressed, simply check out his curriculum vitae in the Wikipedia entry. Now the versatile musician returns with his fourteenth solo album, Dare To Dream. The album features the single Born to Fight which Netflix, in October 2020, used to promote the popular anime series BAKI and Kengan Ashura.

That song, Born To Fight, is a good jumping off point to discuss Stan Bush's music. One, the song is a perfect example of Bush's classic AOR melodic hard rock musical motif. The components are self-evident: strong guitar and vocal harmony, rock beat and groove from a potent and lively rhythm section, emphatic and melodic lead vocals, catchy refrains, and terrific guitar solos. With Born To Fight you get the addition of the synth layer for accent and embellishment. But that synth sparkle arrives often as with A Dream Of Love, Dream Big, and The 80's, among others. That last song is more than an homage to that profound and entertaining era of music, it's an example of the classic music which Bush lives and breathes.

Secondly, Born To Fight and Dare To Dream as an album is an example of Bush's inspirational melodic hard rock. Many songs encourage listeners to stay strong, persevere, and strive for better things. In other words, dare to dream. Besides Born To Fight, you'll hear this positive rock with Heat Of Attack (strong Eye of the Tiger vibe), Dream Big, True Believer, Never Give Up and, of course, the title track. If there's a third and final Bush musical formula it comes in the form of the classic rock ballad, which includes both Home and Live And Breathe, a soulful and soaring tune. Awesome guitar solo, too.

All in all, and once more, with Dare To Dream, Stan Bush delivers another powerful and entertaining album of his classic AOR melodic hard rock. Accept no substitutes. Quite recommended.
