Brazilian singer Alirio Netto may not be a common name to many across the melodic rock and metal universe, but you do know him and his work. His discography in includes time spent with Shaman and Age Of Artemis, two prominent Brazilian progressive power metal bands. Netto has also had an impressive solo career in his native country with various albums and singles. In theater, he played the parts, on sperate occasions, of both Jesus and Judas. Talk about a spiritual double-edged sword. Now Alirio's solo career gets an international push with his latest project, All Things Must Pass for Italy's Frontiers Music.
The album is largely a foray into melodic hard rock with some metal spunk, but definitely some AOR friendliness. Of course, at the forefront is Alirio's significant vocal style and range, which can go from hard rock assertiveness to AOR and ballad smoothness. You'll hear the former within songs such as Back To The Light, Back To The Robots, All Things Must Pass, or the rough riding You Hate. For the latter, Alirio's voice mellows for the AOR ballads Here I Am, The First Time, and the soaring symphonic Grey which feature's current Journey vocalist Arnel Pineda (although I had a tough time distinguishing his participation within the song). Overall, Alirio's All Things Must Pass is distinguished by exceptional musicianship and songwriting where song melody and harmony and rock rhythm and groove are at a premium as are significant guitar solos. All things considered, Alirio's All Things Must Pass is solid platter of melodic hard rock, displaying his significant vocal skills and range. Recommended.
