Christian Liljegren: Melodic Passion

Melodic Metal Rock
4.0/5.0

Mostly known in the European theater, vocalist Christian Liljegren has a 35 year history in the music business. He's been the founder and vocalist for a great many metal band including the well-known Narnia, but also Audiovision, Golden Resurrection, Divinefire, and The Waymaker, among many others. Now Mr Liljegren steps out of the shadow of the band experience to offer his first solo album, Melodic Passion, featuring a host of friends and musicians from his lengthy career.

Melodic Passion is an apt title for Liljegren's solo project. For one, the vocalist has always had a passion for heavy metal that emphasizes song melody and harmony, notably in the vocal arrangements and guitar harmony. Moreover, Liljegren likes his melodic metal to abound with rock rhythm and groove, sometimes with some power metal swiftness, and exceptional guitar solos. This is self-evident across the entire album, including the songs Salute For The King, The Rock, The Victory, and the title track, Melodic Passion. Liljegren is also an adamant supporter of the rising metal, like I Breathe, or the softer acoustic kind like This Is My Love Song.

That latter song points to Mr Liljegren's other passion: Christianity, Jesus Christ and his faith in Him. Not just in this album, but across other projects, Liljegren has attributed his musical talent and career as a gift from God. Also, songs like The Rock, Salute To the King, and the closing twin songs, Third Day and My King offer his testimony to the saving work of Jesus Christ and what He has done in his life. There are few examples anymore of rock and metal artists that are this profoundly clear about their faith in Jesus Christ, and then use well-crafted music to spread the Message. Usually it's muffled or so diluted that a band or vocalist could be singing about their girlfriend. All said then, Christian Liljegren's Melodic Passion offers listeners a profoundly faith-inspired album of well-crafted melodic metal rock with his strong vocal performance at the helm. Recommended.
