It's like Christmas in October, but somewhat ahead of schedule. This month sees the release of four of my favorite bands from across the pond: Houston, Wayward Sons, Leverage, and Sweden's Eclipse with their latest and eighth studio album, Wired. Eclipse is entering their third decade of making music, and they remain constant and consistent.
Wired is no exception to Eclipse's history of success. The album is another fine platter of their melodic hard rock infused with some metal edge. Sharp riff and harmonious riffs are once more wrapped in rock rhythm and groove, terrific vocal harmonies, vivacious refrains, and blistering guitar solos. Simple. It's rock out and bang your head like its 1987. And it's difficult to pick some favorites here. I liked everything about this album; but, if you noticed from my introduction, I'm a bit biased. There's some tunes that are simply fast and heavy, while melodic and rushing to epic guitar solos like Run For Cover, Roses On Your Grave, and Bite The Bullet. Alternatively, Dying Breed bumps up the AOR accessibility with tuned vocal and guitar harmony and catchy refrain. Other songs dial back the pacing for something heavy and steady such as We Didn't Come To Lose. But Carved In Stone throws you the best twist wherein the song offers significant choral vocal harmony, suggesting a ballad; that is until about the 2:15 mark where things get heavy in riffs and groove, yet the vocal harmony remains. All said, and simply, Eclipse's Wired is another solid and consistent, lively and energetic, album of their trademark melodic metal rock. Easily recommended.
Note: All Amazon advertising in this review first benefits the artist, then Craig Hartranft also receives a residual. Click, and thanks for your support.
