Formed in 2019, Generation Steel is a new German metal band created by rhythm guitarist Jack The Riffer (ex- Bullet Train, ex-Dead Man's Hand). The young band also features lead guitarist Pascal Lorenz (ex-Oscura, ex-Corbain), bassist Michael Kaspar (ex-Squealer), drummer Martin Winter, and newcomer vocalist Rio Ullrich. Generation Steel's debut album The Eagle Will Rise was produced by Accept guitarist Uwe Lulis.
Generation Steel is, essentially, a traditional heavy metal band characterized by specific musical elements. These include intense sharp riffage, speed metal gallop, rhythm section heaviness and groove, an abundance of blistering guitar solos, and Ullrich's vocals which are mostly raw and raspy. Ullrich's vocal style is unrelenting and raging throughout the album with little variation or range.
So then, with few exceptions most every song within the 13-song platter can be described simply as fast and heavy with emphasis on the guitar riffs and shredding. The formula is simple: raging riffs combine with a thunderous rhythm section to begin the song, speed kicks in, and then all things lead to a guitar solo or several. Thanks to some solid production, often the bass line is heard within a song. But Generation Steel's metal recipe, and redundancy, remains the same with Invoke The Machine, Temple Of Malady, On My Way, and The Eagle Will Rise as notable examples. A small diversion comes with The Wayward One with its light electric guitar start and accompanying short guitar solo, but it soon rips into riff roaring speedy metal. All said, and simply, Generation Steel and The Eagle Will Rise offers metal fans guitar-forward, speedy, and traditional heavy metal with little variation and adequate to average results. Check them out and support the band.
