How do you know vocalist James Robledo? The Chilean singer, with a solid resume in his native country, appeared with new metal band Sinner's Blood and their debut album, The Mirror Star in 2020. The project was established by Frontier Music and featured fellow Chiliean, producer and mult-instrumentalist Nasson (know for his work with (Chilean vocalist Caterina Nix and Chaos Magic). Now Robledo get another push as solo artist with his debut album, Wanted Man, produced by and featuring the talent of Alessandro Del Vecchio, with André Hilgers (Rage, Silent Force, Bonfire) on drums and Francesco Marras (Tygers Of Pan Tang) on guitar.
Breaking down Wanted Man, the musical context, like Sinner's Blood, is once more melodic metal gift with some power metal speed, plenty of hard rock groove, and ferocious guitar solos. For his part Robledo has an assertive to agressive vocal style which can be at once melodic, but also raw and raspy, perhaps even raging. Put these elements together and many songs are fast, heavy, and intense such as Wanted Man, Quick Sand, the quick-paced Shelter From Pain, or the symphonic-infused and speedy Where Eagles Dare To Fly. A song like Dreams Deceive may start slow and mild with piano but will eventually hit melodic metal overdrive. For some speed and a better amount of rock groove listen for The Good Will Rise, an otherwise catchy number.
All in all, Wanted Man achieves its goal, giving vocalist James Robledo a melodic metal platform to display his assertive and powerful vocal style. If you liked his work with Sinner's Blood in 2020, will want his new solo album. Recommended.
