There's a great many things to like about October: the coming of Fall foliage, Halloween candy, and the release of the new Wayward Sons album, Even Up The Score. The album was preceded by two singles, the title track and Big Day. To the delight of fans, I'm quite sure, tour dates have already been established for 2021 and 2022. See a list of the first dates.
And there's more to appreciate with the Wayward Sons and Even Up The Score: the fantastic throwback comic album art work (which has been a feature from the first album), the ongoing presences of exceptional singer, songwriter, and producer Toby Jepson, and the simple fact that his album fucking rocks!
Wayward Sons are known and notorious for their blending of classic rock with the organic grit of Seventies rock, straight up guitar rock, and more than a little garage-like punk swagger. With many songs it's roaring riffs and a full throttle rhythm and groove as with Looking For A Reason, Sign Of The Times, Big Day, Even Up The Score. Other times the songs can be simply hard and heavier with sharp riffs, a steady groove, and moments of subtlety that allow the vocals rise, such as Fake, Bloody Typical, or Faith In Fools. But make no mistake, with all the songs, the Spector-like wall of sound is the twin guitar harmony in the riffage, only emboldened by the thick rhythm section. All said, Wayward Sons' Even Up The Score is another powerful album of their guitar-driven and rambunctious, classic, garage-like, rock. Easily recommended.
