Most fans of the Frontiers Music label know that Alessandro Del Vecchio is their main in-house songwriter. But he also wears more hats: producer, singer, and accomplished musician, who's pretty darn handy with a keyboard. When he's not working his ass off for other bands, he comes back to his own project, Edge Of Forever. His previous album was 2019's Native Soul, the first EoF recording in almost a decade. Now, with a stable band, Edge Of Forever returns with Seminole, once more revisiting some Native American themes.
Edge Of Forever is classic AOR melodic hard rock, perhaps heavier and merging with melodic metal. Del Vecchio writes with common sense characteristic of the genre: vocal harmony, guitar harmony, catchy refrains, rock rhythm and groove, and abundant guitar solos. Also, Del Vecchio, being the proficient and egalitarian songwriter, writes songs and music for the entire band. But I think Secret Sphere guitarist Aldo Lonobile may have slipped him a few extra Lira: his solos can still the show. Otherwise, speaking of some songs, you'll find some classic hard rockers with On The Other Side Of Pain, Shift The Paradigm, and Another Salvation, which features some crafty drum work from Hardline's Marco Di Salvia. Made It Through may trip you up with its smooth acoustic guitar and vocal start, but it quickly turns into a solid rocker. Del Vecchio shows his talent for piano-inspired melodies with the anthem, Breath Of Life. The highlight for me was Wrong Dimension, an eight-minute melodic metal epic which steady, heavy, with symphonic synth undercurrents. The album concludes with the Seminole suite: four deceptively simple and interesting AOR melodic tunes that pass too quickly. All in all, Edge Of Forever's Seminole may be their best recording to date, offering fans another solid and varietal platter of AOR melodic hard rock. Recommended.
