Not exactly a one-off band but France's Galderia has been missing in action from the studio for more than five years. Their last recording was 2017's Return of the Cosmic Men, a fine album of genre-defining European melodic power metal. Endless Horizon is their third and latest long-player, which brings back the previous album's personnel, yet with a session bass player for the new recording. The album was mixed and mastered by guitarist Simone Mularoni at his Domination Studio.
With this new recording Galderia is not reinventing their sound or turn the melodic power metal genre on its proverbial head. Nope. What the band is doing is drawing from their greatest strengths. Besides being your typical fast and heavy power metal romps, Galderia has always excelled in the several areas: melodic lead vocals, grand choral backing vocals, and epic guitar solos. Just to add some pepper and spice, the band will drop in segues which feature acoustic and classical guitar or piano. Sometimes these arrangements can give a song a folk flavor as with Eternal Paradise.
Other song highlights can be noted. Striking The Earth and Gonna Change It All will satisfy any power metal fan by being hasty and heavy, yet also bringing with rock groove. Burning Higher, another fast romp, has a definitive bass line to drive the song. But before it wraps up, it drops down for a slower vocal segue, only gallop to the end. The title cut Endless Horizon finds Galderia tapping into all their strengths: varietal keyboards and piano, major choral vocals, gallop and groove, and blazing guitar solos. The song also features some female spoken word segments. The finisher, Twenty One, perhaps best described a metal anthem (versus a ballad) turns heavily upon acoustic guitar and another rich Galderia choral vocal arrangement.
Simply stated, Endless Horizon is exactly what you would expect from Galderia: classic melodic power metal driven by gallop and groove, phenomenal choral vocal arrangements, and plenty of epic guitar solos. If you're a fan of the band or genre, you will want this album. Easily recommended.

By far, Sweden's Eclipse is one of my favorite bands. Always consistent and always entertaining, Eclipse has been delivering their 21st century version of melodic metal rock since songwriter, producer ... [ Read More ]
