Swedish band Jaded Heart has been a stalwart of the metal underground since 1990, releasing their first studio album, Inside Out in 1994. The band has endured changes in the music industry and personnel changes over their long career, but still has produced new albums on a near every two year basis. Now trimmed down to a quartet (guitarist Masa Eto is gone), Jaded Heart returns with their fifteenth recording Heart Attack.
The new album features song writing contributions from Sascha Gerstner (Helloween) and Rupert Keplinger (Eisbrecher). Niklas Dahlin, from the Swedish power metal band Insania, delivers a guitar solo on Right Now. Otherwise, Jaded Heart strays little from their consistent metal repertoire, delivering melodic metal with some power metal speed and infused with rock groove.
Keeping this review brief, here are some song picks. Some fine melodic metal with groove arrive with Sweet Sensation, Harvester Unknown, and Heart Attack. Things turn more to power metal with Blood Red Skies, but even more so with the viciously fast Lady Spider. Others are simply heavy and steady like Bridge Are Burning or Midnight Stalker. Jaded Heart attempts something more epic and ambitious with the dense and steady metal anthem, Descent. Most things considered, Heart Attack is simply consistent and signature Jaded Heart, offering fans their classic melodic heavy metal dosed with some power metal gusto and hard rock groove. If you're a fan, you will enjoy this album.
