Hailing from Warsaw, Scream Maker was formed in 2012 by guitarist Michal Wrona. Sebastian Stodolak joined him a year later on vocals and the two would become the only constants in personnel in years to come. Scream Maker's debut long player, Livin' In The Past, appeared in 2014. It was an average album. If anything it lived up to its name because Scream Maker plays traditional heavy metal. And so we come to 2022, where Scream Maker drops their third studio album, Bloodking, now signed to Italy's Frontiers Music.
By way of genre, little has changed for Scream Maker. Bloodking, simply put, is more fast and heavy classic heavy metal driven by twin guitars, a rabid rhythm section, and epic solos from Wrona. Stodolak's voice puts the "scream" into Scream Maker as he continues his raging, assertive, bit harsh, screamo style. Basically, he sings metalish. But after about three songs, I've had enough.
Nevertheless, musically speaking, as far as classic heavy metal, Bloodking is superior to previous works. The songs show maturity while still knocking out traditional, keep it true, heavy metal. Wrona continues deal out impressive guitar solos. If you're a fan of the same, you could buy this album on that strength alone. Conversely, the album is too long, unnecessarily so, with 15 songs over 60-plus minutes. This could have been trimmed down to something more compact. Or, like albums back in the day, 10 or 11 songs around 45 minutes. Or you could simply say you're getting your Euro's worth of tunes. I'm not going to delve into many particular songs as the aforementioned fast and heavy formula reigns throughout. With the exceptions of the heavy but slower Tears Of Rage and the closing ballad, Too Late.
All said, once more, with Bloodking, Scream Maker offers fans their contemporary incarnation of classic and traditional heavy power metal, known mostly for the epic guitar solos. If you're a keep it true metalhead, you will want to check out Scream Maker's Bloodking. Check on the vids and support the band.
