Culling their name from Greek mythology, The Furies, The Erinyes are new female-fronted project created by Frontiers Music. The band features the talent of three international vocalists: Justine Daaé (Elyose), Mizuho Lin (Semblant), and Nicoletta Rosellini (Walk In Darkness and Kalidia). The album is produced by guitarist Aldo Lonobile (Secret Sphere, Timo Tolkki’s Avalon, Archon Angel) who adds both his guitar and song arrangement skills to the album.
With one listen, there's no disputing one thing: these three woman have exceptional vocal skills which blend quite well together. While I have no knowledge of who might take lead on individual songs (mostly, I suspect their shared), each participant is gifted with vocal melody, harmony, and robust range. What doesn't seem to be characteristic of their individual style is that ear-piercing 100 octave operatic style (which I can do without). Musically, the ladies are wrapped in basic melodic metal, perhaps part symphonic and power metal but mostly leaning to the former. As a listener will expect, Lonobile lays down strong riffs and equally grand guitar solos. But, as a listener, I found the music rather formulaic (for female-fronted symphonic metal) which, in turn, made the vocal arrangements have the same feeling. In other words, as a whole the music is fundamental for the genre but made more interesting by the vocal talent. In light of this, songs that I thought displayed the trios vocal talent were It's Time, the AORish Where Do We Go, You And Me Against The World, and Life Needs Love. Those latter two songs really bring out the choral quality of the women in the vocal arrangements. All in all, if you enjoy female-fronted, with three talent gals no less, symphonic melodic metal, you will find The Erinyes debut album firmly established in your wheelhouse. You will not be disappointed. Recommended for fans of the genre.
