By now, if you're a melodic rock fan and you've never heard of Cassidy Paris, you should probably get an Internet connection. The Australian singer, songwriter, and guitarist at 20 years of age, has been quite the spark in the genre. These are things we all ready know. She's already dropped two EPs, dropped several singles, and performed in America, Japan, England, and across her native island. Since age 11, she has been mentored in her craft by singer songwriter Paul Laine (ex Danger Danger, The Defiants), who also produces her music. Paris was also a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) for Best Rock Song and Best Unsigned Artist. For Frontiers Music, she has become the youngest artist the label has signed to date. Want some more?
Cassidy was raised on classic rock, and has mentioned influencers such as Lzzy Hale, Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, Def Leppard, and Avril Lavigne. And Taylor Swift whom met when she was eight years old (Paris, not Swift). Rumors have it that she's also his an eye on Kansas City Chief Travis Kelce. (Kidding. I made that up.) Cassidy has also been endorsed by Fender for their Squier Guitar line.
Now, Ms Paris drops her debut long player, New Sensation. A prophetic title perhaps? I would say her future is bright. Cassidy is gifted with strong songwriting skills and an equally strong and effective singing voice. To the former, at such a young age, she has a focused and prodigious grasp of AOR melodic hard rock. Paris knows the genre values song harmony and melody, rock rhythm and groove, and big choruses with even bigger guitar solos. To the latter, she sings melodic, clean, and strong with some range. If the Taylor Swift references raises some qualms, let it be known that Ms Paris is a classic rocker not some runway pop diva who needs a dance groove and top-hatted consorts ushering her along.
By this time, you're wondering about the songs within. With that last paragraph in mind, you can expect some solid rock across the album. Some straight on rockers include On The Bright Side, RNR Hearts, Danger, and Song For The Broken Hearted. Some songs turn more upon an AOR anthem, ballad-like, vibe: Here I Am, Stand, and possibly Like I Never Loved You. You can kick out the jams once again with the fast and catchy Addicted.
All things considered, Cassidy Paris' New Sensation is a solid, well-crafted, and entertaining album of AOR melodic hard rock from this young singer songwriter, who is talented and experienced beyond her age. Perhaps the next big thing? I'm no prophet, but Cassidy Paris' future is bright. Quite recommended.
