In a mere five years, with two previous albums, Creye have established themselves as a new standard in Swedish and Scandi melodic rock. Their reputation for solid song craftsmanship and entertaining live performances got them gigs in Sweden and across Europe. This included premier festivals Melodicrock Fest, Frontiers Rock Sweden, and Rockingham Festival. Now with a stable lineup the band returns with their third studio album, III - Weightless.
Band founder and lead guitarist had one thing in mind when forming Creye, bringing classic AOR melodic rock forward to the contemporary music scene. From their debut, Creye, to today, the band has delivered the AOR goods with the proper elements: melodic and harmonious vocal arrangements, twin guitar harmony, an abundance of rock rhythm and groove, synths for texture and accent, and, of course, Gullstrand's soaring guitar solos. What makes Creye somewhat unique is that vocalist August Rauer has a smooth soulful style. Even when a song seems to rock somewhat harder and faster, his presence tempers the song by raising up the song melody. He's quite the asset to the song arrangements.
Taking some tunes into consideration, Weightless provides listeners a proper mix of smoother AOR rock with more brisk rockers. To the former, notable examples include How Far, The Game, Glorious, and the ballad Stay. As to the latter, some more rambunctious rock comes with Pieces, One Step Away, and especially Spreading Fire, perhaps the heaviest song of the album. But then there are songs that are a hybrid where AOR dovetails with harder rock, including Air and Dangerous. Most thing considered, as expected from this talented band, Creye's III - Weightless, offers fans another solid, well-crafted, and entertaining album of their, now, signature AOR melodic rock. Very recommended.
