Now into their fourth decade, Swedish band House Of Shakira has a consistent and constant career in the melodic genre. In view of this, the band marked the 25th anniversary of their debut album by reissuing Lint in 2022. Their last studio album, however, came four years ago with Radiocarbon. Now, the ever popular Swedes return with their tenth long-player Xit.
Once more, House Of Shakira does not disappoint, only entertain. With Andreas Novak's melodic vocals at the forefront the band delivers AOR and twin guitar driven melodic hard rock. Wherein rock rhythm and groove, song melody, guitar and vocal harmony, epic solos, and memorable choruses mix for fine results. House of Shakira's consistent songcraftmanship is their secret weapon.
To consider a sample of songs, for some fast straight up rockers listen for No Silver Lining, Twisted Attitude, and Chimera with it's sharp riffs and swift pace. Not to be entirely pigeon-holed, House of Shakira offers some twists. Toxic Train has a bit funky groove; Your Exit a definite upbeat popish groove, yet with definite crisp rock riffs. The Messenger has a latent blues feeling. The album closes with the title cut Xit. The longest song on the album it becomes a slow grooving guitar driven anthem with epic guitar solos to finish.
All in all, and once again with Xit, long-serving and talented House of Shakira offer fans another consistent and entertaining album of their AOR infused melodic hard rock, with a few subtle twists to mix things up. Easily recommended.
