Seventh Crystal: Infinity EP

Melodic Hard Rock/AOR
4.0/5.0

Eight months ago, Swedish rockers Seventh Crystal, formed by vocalist Kristian Fyhr, dropped their sophomore album Wonderland. Not everything from those recording sessions made the cut for the album. In turn, now, Seventh Crystal offers listeners what they've been missing: five song within the new EP Infinity.

Drummer Anton Roos adds, "... instead of putting the songs on the album, we felt that these songs had a life of their own and deserved a place of their own. It's an EP where we take a bit of a turn but our fans are guaranteed to recognize the sound." That's a bit cryptic. Is Infinity some turn from their trademark AOR melodic hard rock? Discerning readers need to know.

I would suggest, not. Of the five songs here, a listener might consider some a bit heavier, perhaps Infinity and Silence, and Memory Lane in parts. Ready Set Go! is a spirited number with an lively groove and an ambitious pace, but you would not expect this from its mild start. Rivals is a completely mellow piano and vocal ballad, essentially.

Fundamentally then, the Infinity EP, is simply an addendum to Seventh Crystal's current long-player, Wonderland. If you're a fan of the band and the genre, then you will want this short five-song recording. However, as of this writing, if have no clue where you can buy the EP.
