Dark Mile: Dark Mile

Hard & Heavy Metal
4.5/5.0

This review is going to start like almost every other one. US band Dark Mile is the collaboration four friends and veterans of the hard rock and heavy metal genre: Tracy G (g,Dio), Paul Alfery (g,k,Walk The Walk), Randy Oviedo (b,Streek) and Mark Huff (v,Quiet Riot). The quartet signed to Germany's Pride & Joy Music for the release of their self-titled debut album. The first single, Boy, from the album dropped on May 24 (listen below).

Dark Mile

Musically, the band members are drawing from their collective experiences. Their sound is hybrid mix of classic hard rock and heavy metal. At the core of the songs is Tracy G rabid and roaring riffs and shredding solos. Which is complimented at the microphone by Huff's assertive vocal style. The boom is lowered by the bombastic rhythm section groove.

Speaking, quickly, to some songs. You'll find some rowdy, riff roaring, tunes with United We Stand (don't let mild intro trip you up), No Deal, Lies, and Boy. Early in the album there's a Tracy G instrumental segue Like Never Before which leads to the slow burning, hard and heavy, Is Anybody Listening. Games follows with mild guitar intro, and then more heavy, steady metal. Then, two interesting songs follow, He Said She Said And Maybe On A Sunday, where I heard something of a blues groove. The same might be said of Where's The Love which maybe Dark Mile's song closest to a (very heavy) ballad.

All in all, if you like your music hard and heavy, Dark Mile and their debut album is a perfect mixture of classic hard rock and heavy metal, perhaps with a touch of blues, and bristling with sharp riffs and fiery solos. Recommended.
