Peterik/World Stage: Roots & Shoots Vol. 2

AOR Melodic Rock
5.0/5.0

As promised, veteran songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and Grammy winner, Jim Peterik returns with part the second chapter of his World Stage project Roots & Shoots Vol. 2. The formula for the project remains the same: Peterik writing AOR songs for veteran (the roots) and up and coming (shoots) vocalists and musicians to add their gifts and talents.

Those veterans include Mike Reno, Toby Hitchcock, Cathy Richardson, Peterik's band Ides Of March, Jason Scheff, and Neil Donell. The latter two fellows have performed with Chicago. The new and notable performers include Kevin Farris, Sophia Sheth, and Dave Mikulskis, who performs with the classic rock cover band HiinFidelity. Here are the complete track list and credits.

Once more Roots & Shoots Vol. 2 is an entertaining AOR melodic rock workout with 12 songs that will please any fan of the genre. For some favorites I would point first to the songs featuring Dave Mikulskis, American Dreamer and Stronger Than You Know. He has a powerful and melodic voice. Loverboy vocalist Mike Reno is in fine form within Your Own Hero. Another catchy AOR rocker is We Can Fly with Ides Of March. A fine ballad comes with Love Lives, with Peterik in duet with Cathy Richardson (Jefferson Starship). But the killer track here is Hit Of Freedom, a light pop melodic rock song featuring Sophia Sheth, a young Chicago singer and songwriter who recently released her first album, Stardust. Keep an eye on this gal. She's got some fine talent. One final observation: the guitar leads throughout this album are outstanding.

As said with the Vol. 1, with his World Stage project, Roots & Shoots Vol. 2, Jim Peterik has done a very fine thing for the AOR genre: keeping the genre undeniable and vibrant by infusing it with a new generation of significant talent. Easily recommended.
