Returning three years after their debut album Spektra, the creation of Brazilian vocalist BJ (Jeff Scott Soto Band, S.O.T.O., DangerAngel, Tempestt), drops their sophomore album, Hypnotized. A huge fan of classic rock, BJ cites veteran bands like Journey, Winger, and Foreigner as influences for the Spektra music. He's assisted by Henrique Canalle (b) with Leo Mancini (g) and Edu Cominato (d), both from Tempestt.
Essentially and musically, Spektra is giving the listener a return to classic Eighties melodic hard rock wherein every song has AOR accessibility for radio air play and stadium rock power. The core ingredients for this recipe are BJ's melodic and strong voice, vocal and guitar harmony, song melody and rock groove, big refrains, and inspired guitar solos.
Turning to the tunes, you'll find some bolder arena rockers with FreeFall, Against The Wind, Hypnotized, and the heavy steady Running Out Of Time II. Alternatively, Spektra turns up the AOR groove with My Voice For You, Search For More, and the vocal anthem Out Time Is Now. Different Me Outside, a true ballad closes the album, featuring a large vocal arrangement accompanied by acoustic guitar, then finishes with the quintessential epic, soaring guitar.
Fundamentally, Spektra's Hypnotized is a fine compliment to their debut album, another album of classic melodic hard rock with AOR accessibility, and demonstrating the band's consistent and strong songwriting. Recommended.
