Now entering their second decade in music biz, Sweden's Wildness returns with latest and fourth studio album, Avenger. Band personnel has remained consistent for the last four years with the addition of Erik Forsberg at the microphone. Wildness's music and and DIY work ethic has allowed the band to share the stage well-known artists and peers including Dokken, H.E.A.T, Dee Snider, Crashdïet, Dragonforce, Warrant, and Pretty Maids. As a strange match, Wildness has performed with notable Swedish melodic death metal band Arch Enemy.
There's no death metal here. Wildness continues play AOR-inspired classic melodic hard rock with some notable metal edge. Of album, the band has commented: "The wait is finally over, and we're proud to present our fourth album Avenger for you guys! This is an album that summarizes everything that Wildness stands for, and we can't wait for you guys to hear it!"
Speaking to the music within, this album is probably the heaviest album Wildness has done to date. Expecting one slower ballad-like anthem (I'll Be Over You), most every songs rocks out, nearing melodic metal rock. Strong rockers arrive with Walk Through The Fire, Wings Of Fire, Stand Your Ground, the arena-ready Crucified (my top pick), and Avenger. Wherein drummer and principal songwriter Erik Modin has said: "Avenger is not only the title track of the album. It's a homage to our heavy metal roots which has always been an important part in our music."
Three final comments can be made. One, each arrangement is built upon fine song melody, vocal harmony, twin guitar harmony, and solid rock groove. Which, two, allows for every song to have catchy AOR accessibility. And three, thanks to a twin guitar attack, the guitar solos are fandamntastic. Yeah. That's really a word.
All said, with Avenger, Sweden's Wildness offers another album of their finely-tuned and entertaining melodic hard rock with a metal vibe and AOR accessibility, and the guitar solos kill. Definitely recommended.
