We were introduced to English vocalist Chez Kane about 19 months ago with her self-titled debut, Chez Kane. Ms Kane, who fronts her own band Kane'd (with her sisters) was brought to the Frontiers label by Crazy Lixx's Danny Rexon who, essentially, has become a talent scout for the label. Since her debut, Ms Kane has been busy helping other Frontiers' projects including the latest from Lords Of Black guitarist Tony Hernando's Restless Spirits and Swedish vocalist Kristian Fyhr's new venture, Ginevra and debut We Belong To The Stars.
Now Chez Kane returns with her sophomore title, Powerzone. Wherein Kane handles all the vocal parts and Danny Rexon, all the instrumentation. Once more, the album is more classic Eighties AOR melodic rock deja vu. Essentially: rock rhythm and groove, strong guitar solos, and clean melodic vocal arrangements wrapped up in AOR song melody, harmony, and catchy refrains. You can't miss the Eighties musical motif. Just check out the video for Love Gone Wild below. You just might find Jane Fonda dancing in the background.
And this motif continues throughout the album. The aforementioned Love Gone Wild is likely the hardest rock song (wrapped in some subtle dance groove). Note also the inclusion of saxophone from Los Angeles-based guest musician Jesse Molloy. But other songs got some bump and gusto as well: Rock You Up, Powerzone, and I'm Ready For Your Love. Twisting between both AOR and ballad are Streets Of God, (The Things We Do) When We're Young In Love, Children Of Tomorrow Gone, which has some fine Rexon piano work.
All said, Powerzone finds Chez Kane in her sweet spot, offering fans some classic Eighties-inspired AOR melodic hard rock, with fine songwriting and musicianship from Crazy Lixx's Danny Rexon who also understands the genre quite well. Recommended.
