Roulette was a staple of the Swedish rock scene in the late Eighties and early Nineties, but then they submerged into nowhere. They had a small revival back in 2010 with Better Late Than Never. Then another pause came, before they began releasing a series of three singles between 2015 and 2017. Those tunes appear on their new full-length album, Now!.
Simply spoken Roulette, a four piece band, plays AOR melodic hard rock. You know the genre, the characteristic elements, and you will hear them in every arrangement: memorable melody, vocal and guitar harmony, strong beat and groove, epic guitar solos and, of course, strong and soaring vocals. Thomas Lundgren has a powerful voice, his vocals rising and leading every song. After this, Roulette simply creates satisfying rock songs filled with infectious melody, beat, groove, and catchy refrains for arena ready AOR accessibility.
AOR hard rockers come with Never Enough, Better Day, Turn It Around, and Right By Your Side. Another Night develops with synths over drums to another rocker with a fine bass groove. You might find the riffs sharper within Keep On Dreaming, giving the song slight metal edge. With Secret Room, Roulette brings a symphonic AOR arena anthem led by a fine piano melody, moved by a fine chorus, and finished with a soaring solo. Suffice to say, Now! is a fine return to form for Sweden's Roulette, offering full album of lively and entertaining AOR melodic hard rock. Easily recommended.
