A relatively new band, Adamantis was formed in Boston in 2016 by drummer Evgeny Gromovoy and guitarist Javier Estrada. Gathering like-minded artists via the Internet, the first incarnation of Adamantis included a female vocalist at the microphone. The band went on to drop their debut EP, Thundermark in 2018. Soon after these things, Adamantis went through some personnel changes with a new bassist and vocalist, Cody Pelchat and Jeff Stark respectively, joining the band. Their first full-length album, Far Flung Realm, was self-released in October 2020 to limited distribution. But the album caught the ears of Italy's purveyor of traditional heavy metal, Cruz Del Sur Music, for a larger international release. Which is a good thing.
Essentially, Adamantis plays a blend of traditional heavy and power metal from both its European and North American counterparts. Think something of a mixture of Helloween or Gamma Ray and Cirth Ungol or Manilla Road tossed in a musical blender. A typical Adamantis song has the fundamental musical elements of the genre: twin guitars for riff harmony, a bold rhythm section gallop and groove, clean, soaring vocals that follow song melody and, of course, soaring guitar solos. With a song like Second Sight, you can add some (slight) symphonic embellishment. But most songs can be distilled down to being fast and heavy as they roar their way to subsequent guitar solos. This is notable within Unbound Souls, Oracles Prophecy, Misbegotten Dream or Fire And Brimstone, which has a lengthy ambitious guitar solo in the latter half. Sometimes the racing speed and sharp riffage combine for a thrash metal effect as within Puppeteers Bane and Journey's End. Following in some of the American tradition of heavy metal, songs like Second Sight and Voron heavy an epic metal feeling thanks to their heavy, dense character of the riffs and rhythm section, mixed tempos, and swollen vocal arrangements. All in all, for another introduction to the New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal, Adamantis' debut album Far Flung Realm is well-crafted and entertaining contribution to the genre. Easily recommended
