Review: Craig Hartranft, 04.26.2010
I know little about Kenni DeNile, yet with one listen to his first recording Dreamer, his musical roots and current direction are quite clear. This is pure 80's melodic rock with crafty melodies, catchy hooks, clever fret work, and slick production, all wrapped up in an arena rock atmosphere. Longer than an EP, but shorter than a full album, Dreamer includes seven songs that straddle 80's glam rock akin to Cinderella (among others) with hearty rockers like We Are the Young or Snake Bite and heart-felt ballads, Indigo and Hey You. While the rockers are edgy, they're not really that heavy. This may put off those expecting the harder side of 80's music. Dreamer is more melodic hard rock tempered by AOR accessibility.
For his part, DeNile is sound vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist. He's also the consummate optimist as his 'power of self and positive thinking' makes him the Norman Vincent Peale of rock and roll. Kenni DeNile's Dreamer is solid melodic hard rock from a sound and creative musician. Expect more from Kenni Denile in the future. Very recommended.
