Soon to advance into their fourth decade of music, House Of Shakira returns with their ninth and latest studio album, Radiocarbon. My last experience with the band was nearly seven years ago with HoS, when they were signed to Lion Music. Two studio albums and one live album were dropped since then. Radiocarbon finds House Of Shakira in the capable hands of Frontiers Music.
The album also finds the band in fine musical form once more, delivering their hook-laden catchy AOR melodic hard rock. House Of Shakira works the usual musical elements with ease and expertise. Song melody and harmony meets rock rhythm and groove, then adding fine vocal harmony, strong guitar solos, and simply memorable refrains. My thought with one spin or two was that many songs seemed heavier than past recordings. That may be so, but the songs are tempered by the vocal and guitar harmony and the crazy good upbeat rock groove that merge together for AOR accessibility. Mostly, all this boils down to is simply fine songwriting, wherein I was quite impressed with the twin guitar riff harmony and the crisp, ambitious guitar solos. My top picks for songs were those that pulled all these things together like One Circumstance, Save Yourself, Radiocarbon (nice bass line), the riff ready Scavenger Lizard, and A Tyrant's Tale, with the sitar-like guitar start. Later, House Of Shakira mellows a bit with the AOR anthem, Falling Down. All said, and to repeat myself, House Of Shakira's Radiocarbon is another fine album of their trademark, hook-laden, and catchy AOR melodic hard rock. Easily recommended.
