Work Of Art: Exhibits

AOR Melodic Rock
4.0/5.0

After a four year absence, Swedish AOR giants Work Of Art return with their new and fourth studio album, Exhibits. But, no pressure there. At least one player has been busy the last two years. In 2018, founding member and guitarist Robert Sall dropped a new W.E.T. album and then partnered with FM vocalist Steve Overland for a new band, Groudbreaker.

Work Of Art

Exhibits once more unites Sall with vocalist Lars Safsund and drummer Herman Furin. The bass and keyboard slots were filled by various guest musicians, including American composer and keyboard player Vince DiCola known for his work on the films Staying Alive and Rocky IV. DiCola adds a keyboard solo to This Isn't Love. Otherwise, Work Of Art delivers vital classic AOR melodic rock with more than a little Westcoast breeze, featuring Safund's smooth vocals and Sall's soaring guitar solos.

Looking to some of the tunes within Exhibits, you'll find some brisk and crisp melodic rock with Misguided Love, Come Home, and Destined To Survive. Some listeners might find that last song a bit heavier, leaning more towards hard rock. You might find the same with Be The Believer, another rousing rocker. Sharp guitar lines start both Gotta Get Out and What You Want From Me, before dropping into roaring arena anthems. Sall's guitar chops within Scars To Prove It have a groovy vibe, perhaps a blur between rock and funk riffs. Throughout you'll hear the guest keyboard players adding accent, texture, and then solos within This Ain't Love, Come Home, and What You Want From Me. Essentially, Exhibits is everything you would expect from Work Of Art: catchy and entertaining, arena-ready, AOR classic rock. Recommended. Get it.
