Hailing from Brazil, Electric Mob is a new rock quartet featuring 2016 The Voice Brazil participant, vocalist Renan Zonta. During his stint on the show, Zonta performed such classic rock songs as Sweet Child 'O Mine, Highway To Hell, and We Are The Champions. While Electric Mob appears to be his principal gig, Zonta can also be heard on Magnus Karlsson's Free Fall latest album We Are The Night, releasing this month as well. With Zonta Electric Mob also features Ben Hur Auwarter (guitar), Yuri Elero (bass), and André Leister (drums). Discharge is their debut album for Italy's Frontiers Records.
Proceeding directly to the music, Electric Mob offers listeners, essentially, melodic heavy rock with a bit of blues thrown in. As for his voice, Zonta is definitely a classic rock singer. Singing clean and melodic with strength and little strain, Zonta can be assertive, other times simply passionate and soulful. Another personnel highlight is guitarist Ben Hur Auwarter who has some fine guitar chops, laying down tough riffs and delivering soaring solos.
Listening to a selection of tunes, you'll hear some of that blues groove with Devil You Know, Got Me Runnin', Far Off, and the ballad Your Ghost. That song features a bit of everything: acoustic guitar, some Western whistling, slide guitar, and a slow burning guitar solo. Alternatively, you'll find some straight up heavy riff rockers with King's Ale, We Are Wrong, and the short, fast, and heavy Upside Down. For something a bit different, check out Higher Than Your Heels where sharp riffs meet a funky groove from the rhythm section, some scat vocals from Zonta and, if I'm not mistaken, some bright trumpet in the mix. A very classy song. All said, Electric Mob's Discharge is an impressive and entertaining debut album of bit bluesy heavy rock from this upstart Brazilian band. Recommended.
