High Spirits: Hard To Stop

Melodic Hard Rock
4.0/5.0

Formed and led by the indomitable and prolific songwriter Chris "The Professor" Black, High Spirits returns with their sixth studio album, Hard To Stop. Mixing the genres of melodic hard rock and traditional heavy metal, High Spirits delivers what they call high energy rock. Actually, "highenergyrock" is the handle for their Facebook account.

High Spirits

The essence of a High Spirits song can be distilled to several elements: twin guitar harmony, soaring solos, sturdy drumming, thumping bass, with all things wrapped up in brisk and energetic rhythm and groove. Besides high energy rock, High Spirits music could also be called speedy guitar-centric rock. Their tunes aren't bullet train fast like power metal. Rather, in their pacing and groove, they feel more lively and upbeat. But I'm being redundant now. All these things come together across this album, but my top picks would be Restless, All Night Long, Hard To Stop, Since You've Been Gone, and Voice In The Wind, where you hear the strength of the bass line. All said, Hard To Stop is simply another fine album of High Spirits bit retro, very guitar forward, high energy rock. If you're a fan of the band, you will not be disappointed. Recommended.
