Between Worlds: Featuring Ronny Munroe

Melodic/Heavy/Power Metal
4.0/5.0

Between Worlds, a new project from Frontiers Music, reintroduces us to veteran metal vocalist, Ronny Munroe. It's not that the American singer has been missing in action. Known for his former work with Metal Church and Presto Ballet, Munroe has been working with Trans-Siberian Orchestra and One Machine, releasing solo albums, and working on the debut of his new band Peacemaker, expected this month. In the meantime, Munroe has teamed with Frontiers' songwriter and producer Alessandro Del Vecchio to create Between Worlds, which features appearances by guitarists Jack Frost, Joel Hoekstra, and Chris Caffery.

Ronny Munroe

Between Worlds is, essentially, classic melodic heavy/power metal, a genre and context quite familiar to Munroe, and the album was written for his vocal talent. Within, Munroe delivers a fine performance, displaying his range and emotion, perhaps somewhat assertive but always following and rising up the son melody. These things are self-evident within songs such as Life Enough For Me, Beautiful Disaster, and Scent Of An Angel. Along with his vocal presence, the melodic metal can be quite satisfying and entertaining. Songs like Times Of Change or No Escape offer both symphonic embellishment and fine rock groove. Alternatively, Beneath The Surface and Calm The Storm, with strong riffs and underlying keyboards, twist steady metal with feisty power metal. Throughout the album fine guitar solos rise in abundance, making me a happy person. And so, the music and songwriting both fits and promotes Munroe's vocal talent. Then, in summary, Between Worlds offers fans the classic metal voice of Ronny Munroe in his best context, melodic heavy metal. Recommended.
