Three years on and one pandemic behind us, Pride Of Lions returns with their seventh album, Dream Higher. As AOR fans know, Pride Of Lions is the collaboration of vocalist Toby Hitchcock (also T3nors, Palace, Eclipse, solo, et al) and veteran multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer Jim Peterik. The latter has made a career of writing some AOR classics, including Eye Of The Tiger (which launched his career), The Search I Over, Hold On Loosely, and Caught Up In You.
Essentially, with all Pride Of Lions efforts, the music is driven by several significant elements. It begins with solid songwriting built upon rhythm and groove, song melody, and vocal harmony. The last is important. Both Hitchcock and Peterik share lead and backing vocals for a powerful tandem vocal arrangement. The songs are then brightened by inspired guitar solos from Mike Aquino. To finish, every arrangement is wrapped in AOR, radio ready, accessibility.
This formula comes through across the album in every song. There's classic AOR rockers like Find Somebody To Love, Blind To Reason, or Renegade Heart. While the AOR motif is self-evident throughout, it rises large within Everything To Live For, Generational, and the powerful Dream Higher. That last son g brings out a familiar theme in Peterik's songs: positive inspiration. And so a soaring piano-driven, inspirational, ballad comes with My Destiny. All in all, with Dream Higher, Pride Of Lions delivers what fans expect: melodic, soaring, and inspirational AOR melodic hard rocks. It's what they do. Easily recommended.
