We have to dig deep, three decades, to find the origins of Atlantic, a project of songwriter, musician, and producer Simon Harrison (then Stranger, Wisht). Initially thought to be a one-off recording, Harrison and crew dropped the album Power in 1994. (The album would be re-issued by Escape Music in 2008.) Afterwards Harrison would move on to new and various projects.
This included meeting vocalist Mark Grimmett, the younger brother of late Grim Reaper vocalist Steve Grimmett. The duo recorded several songs and hoped to record a full album in the future. The future arrived in 2021 when Harrison and Grimmett began writing together. Long story shortened, a band name change, and some minor personnel turnover, Atlantic was resurrected and Another World arrives
For the first Atlantic project Harrison cited his then current influences including Whitesnake, Journey, Bad English, and many other classic Eighties AOR melodic hard rock bands. Today's Another World invokes all the essentials of the genre for Atlantic part deux. The strengths of the album are many but, to this listener, the came down to three basic things: exceptional song craftsmanship, melodic and strong vocals, and fandamntastic guitar solos from Nick Burr, Andy Margrett, and Mark Pullin. Being a huge lead guitar fan, I can't emphasize this enough; they're terrific in every song. All these things are wrapped up in rock groove and AOR accessibility. All the songs are entertaining, but to pick some favorites: Nothing More, Hold On, Ready Or Not, If This Is Goodbye, and Without Love.
Thirty years later, musician Simon Harrison returns with his Atlantic project and Another World, featuring vocalist Mark Grimmett. It's a superior and entertaining album of classic Eighties AOR melodic hard rock with exceptional guitar work. Easily recommended.
