Since the re-issue of their 1989 self-title debut album in 2019, Bite The Bullet's founding members singer songwriter Mick Benton and drummer Graham Cowling have been dropping a new album every year since 2021. Eighteen months on from the release of their last album Rocky Road, Bite The Bullet returns with their fifth studio album, Looking For Paradise.
When formed in the Eighties, Bite The Bullet were influenced by diverse peers such as Foreigner, Mr Mister, Asia, and Toto. Thought they don't sound specifically like those bands, BtB traverses the same musical terrain: classic AOR melodic hard rock. Ergo, across this album, the listener will find catchy song with strong vocal harmony, memorable melodies and refrains, and ambitious guitar solos.
Considering the songs, you'll find some variety as well. Some strong straight up rockers come with Days Of Gold, The Others, and Dirty Water. Some songs have a latent West Coast groove like Love Isn't Love or Find You, with it's excellent vocal harmony. Both Again & Again and Run have quicker pace and a upbeat groove. Similar is Fly The Ocean which has some spry drum work from Cowling wrapped up in a power pop style. The ballad Love Isn't Love has a latent blues feeling, especially in the guitar solo. All in all, as with all Bite The Bullet releases, Looking For Paradise is another solid, consistent, and entertaining work of classic AOR melodic hard rock. Easily recommended to any fan of the genre.
