Cleanbreak: We Are The Fire

Heavy Metal Rock
4.5/5.0

Cleanbreak arrived in 2022 as a new Frontiers Music project to feature vocalist James Durbin (Durbin, ex-Quiet Riot). On their premiere album, Coming Home, Durbin was joined by Riot V guitarist Mike Flyntz and Stryper members Perry Richardson on bass and Robert Sweet on drums. The result was an album stuffed with classic and melodic heavy metal. Now Cleanbreak arrives with their follow up second album, We Are The Fire, featuring Frontiers musical guru Alessandro Del Vecchio on bass, keys, and bvs and Nicholas Papapicco (Robin McAuley) on drums.

Cleanbreak's James Durbin & Mike Flyntz

Of the album, Durbin comments: "This is a great collection of songs that I had the pleasure of singing and interpreting. Mike Flyntz is an absolute beast on guitar and it's been an honor working with him. Thank you to all of our collective fans and the Cleanbreak fans. We love making music for you!" As a vocalist Durbin has received kudos from legendary peers like Steven Tyler, Sammy Hagar, and Rob Halford.

With We Are The Fire Cleanbreak is not reinventing the wheel here or building a better mouse trap. Their signature sound remains classic and traditional heavy metal infused with rock groove and featuring Durbin's considerable vocal range and Flyntz roaring guitar work. From the start there's some raging metal numbers with Warrior's Anthem, Unbreakable, the big beat and bombastic Breathless, and the speedy groove driven Can't Lose Hope. Another metal rocker comes with Deal With Yourself and its strong bass line and catchy refrain.

You get your first respite with the heavy and soaring power ballad, Love Again. The album returns to finish with heavy metal power, noting the symphonic embellishment within Bide Our Time and the power metal of Resilience In Our Souls. Strong material accented by Flyntz's epic guitar solos.

All said, Cleanbreak's second effort, We Are The Fire, featuring vocalist James Durbin and guitarist Mike Flyntz, is another polished, powerful, and entertaining album of classic heavy metal rock for fans who love the genre. Recommended.
